Math Definitions - Letter G

Geometric Sequence

Definition of Geometric Sequence

A geometric sequence is a type of sequence in which each term is formed by multiplying the preceding term by a given value. The same value is used to multiply each term of the sequence. This value is called the common ratio for the geometric sequence.

For example,

\( 1,3,9,27,81,243,\dots\)
is a geometric sequence. Each number is \(3\) times the number before it, so its common ratio is \(3\).
