Mark Coleman has played brass instruments for over 30 years specifically Trumpet, Flugel Horn and Tenor Horn. He teaches all brass instruments and has been doing so since 1987. Since beginning to play the tenor horn in 1975 with the Newcastle Police Boys band under the guidance of Mr Frank Sims, Mark has studied Trumpet initially with Mr Peter Walmsley, 2nd Trumpet Sydney Symphony Orchestra and later with Mr Daniel Mendelow, Principal Trumpet Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Mr Gerard Swartz, former Principal Trumpet New York Philharmonic Orchestra and whilst attending the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, world renowned cornetist Mr Ken Smith Mark has extensive performance experience having been a permanent member of the Trumpet sections of both the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on a casual basis. Since 1983 he has held a soloist position in one of Australia's leading A grade Brass Bands along with being appointed Principal Flugel Horn and Soloist in the 1985 NSW Youth Band for their national tour. He has also held the principal trumpet positions with the "Moorside Brass Quintet" and Sydney jazz ensemble "Swing for Your Supper”. Mark regularly competes in New South Wales and National Championships and to date has won 14 NSW State Championships on both Flugel Horn and Tenor Horn, He has been the NSW Champion of Champions three times and has won 7 Australian National Championships on both Flugel Horn and Tenor Horn. More recently he has become the 2013 NSW Open Tenor Horn champion and the 2010 Australian Open Tenor Horn champion along with the 2013 NSW Open Brass Champion of Champions. In recent years he has been a panellist for several brass position auditions for professional music groups within the Sydney Metro region.
