What is Specialist Mathematics?

Specialist Mathematics is an advanced Year 11 and 12 mathematics subject offered across Australia under the Australian Curriculum Senior Secondary framework. Known as VCE Specialist Maths in Victoria, HSC Extension 2 Mathematics in NSW, and Specialist Mathematics in QLD, SA, WA, and TAS, it covers complex numbers, vectors, differential equations, mechanics, proof techniques and advanced calculus, preparing students for university study in mathematics, science and engineering.

Do I need to study Methods alongside Specialist?

Yes. Specialist Mathematics must be taken together with or after Mathematical Methods. Many Specialist topics build on Methods concepts such as calculus, functions and probability.
