OUR COLLEGE James An College was established in 1986 by Mr James An. The college was originally developed to provide the opportunity for talented students to achieve their personal best in academic excellence. James An College has been a market leader in the development of solutions to meet the needs of students outside the formal education system. James An College courses are specially designed to cater for the specific needs of students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. Over the past 27 years, James An College has acquired a strong reputation for producing outstanding results in Selective School Tests, Scholarship Exams, O.C. Tests, the School Certificate and the HSC. James An College’s success rate has been the result of consistent development of educational materials and teaching methods. Today there are over 45 James An College branches in Australia, with 27 in Sydney alone. James An College is rapidly expanding throughout Australia and plans to further expand globally. OUR PRINCIPLES Confidence and self determination are life-long characteristics that some people never develop. We believe an important part of developing confidence and determination is learning that mistakes are part of the journey to success. They are a benefit rather than a hindrance to success. Children need to develop perseverance, courage, patience, self motivation and independence. These are qualities children will benefit from having throughout their lives. Students are encouraged to become familiar in using the wealth of information around them. We believe it is important for children to gain knowledge from reference materials. Through our curriculum and teaching methods, children are encouraged to take initiative in problem solving and asking questions. We provide the opportunity to practice new skills and remind students to revise concepts. As students become responsible and independent in their studies, they are also being prepared for the later years of their education, where they will constantly be using these skills. Also, we encourage responsibility, commitment and routine in our students’ study habits. Responsive and participative learning takes place in the classroom and teachers encourage discussion and questioning.
