My name is Bill Hazlewood. I am a practicing primary school teacher with thirty years teaching experience. Whether you child is finding some aspects of schoolwork difficult, or if they are aiming for straight ‘A’s, I am here to help! My motivation as a teacher is seeing children learn and succeed. For this reason, teaching is my passion. I believe that all children can learn, and that they all respond particularly well to individual attention. My goal is to engender in all of my students a love of learning, self-esteem and confidence with their studies, empowering them to become independent learners and leaders. My current role with Education Queensland is as a Specialist Teacher – Literacy and Numeracy. As such, I am familiar with Australian Curriculum (Year 1 to 7), have considerable experience in conducting Literacy and Numeracy assessments, and I possess an in-depth understanding of the Naplan test. As well as classroom teaching experience from Prep to University level, I have twenty years private tutoring experience. This includes considerable time teaching non-English speakers or students with English as a second language. I believe that recognizing and acknowledging a child’s interests and abilities is the key to learning and, as an accredited Gifted and Talented mentor, I am passionate about nurturing my students’ abilities and bringing the best out in all the children I work with. As part of my commitment to tutoring, I support my students in understanding schoolwork, provide them with negotiated homework tasks, and I am always available to be contacted by email. Due to the importance of maintaining continuity in learning, I am available for tutoring in most school holidays. This is important for students who really want to improve their education.
