I am a trained maths teacher, by that I mean that I not only majored in Pure and Applied Maths in my degree, but also specialized in junior and senior secondary maths as part of my teacher training. I am a very experienced teacher of all secondary maths subjects. One of the main problems faced by secondary students today is that it is becoming increasingly common for maths subjects to be taught by teachers who are not maths trained due to a lack of qualified maths teachers in many schools. For students, the obvious lack of expertise and enthusiasm for maths, by some of these teachers, has a negative effect on their understanding and interest in maths. I find it very rewarding to tutor students in maths because I have found that students always respond positively to one-to-one teaching by an enthusiastic, knowledgeable trained maths teacher. Students usually find that both their results and enjoyment of the subject significantly improve with such tutoring.
