Definition of Independent Event
Independent Events are events that are not affected by each other.
Some examples are
- rolling a die: the number on the second roll of the die is not affected by the number on the first roll
- tossing a coin: whether you get heads or tails on the second coin toss is not affected by whether you got heads or tails on the first coin toss
- choosing a jelly bean and choosing a chocolate beannie: the colour of the jellybean chosen does not affect the colour of the beannie chosen.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
