Hello everyone! My name is Salma Salih, I am currently a first year Medical student and and have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate program in 2013. I have been tutoring since I was in Year 10 where I tutored students younger than me mainly in the Sciences and occasionally in French. I've discovered a passion for teaching and I believe my strong communication skills and genuine interest in the subjects I teach contribute greatly to my tutoring skills. I found that tutoring is an extremely rewarding experience because I get to develop a personal friendship with my student which makes the excitement I see in them when they understand a difficult concept that much more special. I am currently a full time student at the University of Adelaide so my contact hours will generally be in the afternoon from 4-7 or anytime during the weekend. I prefer to tutor in the Hub at the University of Adelaide, or at other locations within the city, such as the state library. I was also in charge of organizing the tutoring program our school offered in Year 12 so I have lots of practice papers/past exam questions that I can bring. I typically give 1 hour lessons starting off with a 15 minute explanation (or more if needed) using whiteboards and diagrams on the relevant topic then solving problems on that topic. I use the textbook provided for the course to structure my lessons ensuring that the material I teach is relevant and useful. I am happy to tutor single students or groups and to schedule more time if needed. I can also give tips and advice on general time management, study planning, essay writing, and exam skills. Lastly, I can give advice and coaching on interview skills for students wanting to undertake either the Bachelor of Dental Surgery or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery interview at the University of Adelaide.
