IB skill practice

Interpret phase-line stability

Use equilibrium and sign information to classify stability in a dynamic model.

Paper 1, Paper 2 5 marks Difficulty 3

Interpret phase-line stability - diagnostic reading

A phase line for a environment study model has arrows pointing toward equilibrium \(E\) from both sides: left test value -2 gives a positive rate and right test value 3 gives a negative rate. Enter 1 if \(E\) is stable, otherwise 0. Enter the requested value and choose the interpretation that matches the result.

Worked practice: result and interpretation

Calculate the requested result first, then choose the interpretation that follows from it.
