About This Experiment

Study conservation of momentum in different types of collisions. Momentum is always conserved (p = mv), but kinetic energy conservation depends on the collision type. Elastic collisions conserve both momentum and kinetic energy, while inelastic collisions conserve momentum but lose some kinetic energy to heat, sound, or deformation.

Compare how mass ratios and initial velocities affect final velocities in each collision type. In perfectly inelastic collisions, objects stick together after impact, resulting in maximum kinetic energy loss while still conserving momentum.
