About This Experiment
Nuclear binding energy is the energy required to separate a nucleus into individual nucleons. The mass defect represents the difference between the sum of individual nucleon masses and the actual nuclear mass. Einstein's E=mc² relates this mass difference to binding energy. Binding energy per nucleon peaks around iron-56, explaining why fusion and fission release energy.
