Definition of Minuend

The minuend is the number that things are taken away from in subtraction.

The thing that is taken away is the subtrahend.

The result of the subtraction is the difference.

So, we have:

minuend - subtrahend = difference

For example, in the subtraction \(13 - 9 = 4\), the minuend is \(13\), the subtrahend is \(9\) and the difference is \(4\).
