Definition of Multiple
A multiple is the result of multiplying one integer by another integer.
The number grid on the left shows all the multiples of 3 (highlighted in yellow) between 1 and 100.
Some other examples are the following:
- 18 is a multiple of 9 as 9×2=18.
- −12 is a multiple of 4 as 4×−3=−12.
- 6 is NOT a multiple of 5 as 6=5×1+1.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
