Visual Estimation

Definition of Visual Estimation

Definition of Visual Estimation | SubjectCoach

Visual estimation is the process of using your eyes and mind to come up with a value that is close enough to the correct answer, without actually counting or otherwise measuring an object.

This process can be used to estimate many things including quantities, lengths, heights, areas, angles and volumes.

For example, if you enter a jelly bean guessing competition, you can either just pull a random number out of the air or use visual estimation to get a closer answer. For example, Jasmin's visual estimate that there are 120 jellybeans in this jar is a lot more accurate than Al's guess that there are 1,300! There are actually 125 jellybeans in this jar.
