Monomials and polynomials. A monomial is a number, a variable or a product of a number and a variable where all exponents are whole numbers. That means that. $$42, \: 5x, \: 14x^{12}, \: 2pq$$ all are examples of monomials, whereas, Polynomial is an expression of more than two algebraic terms, especially the sum of several terms that contain different powers of the same variable(s).
