the hilltop provides lovely views of the surrounding countryside and nearby Ruahine Ranges , while the sheltered valleys are the home of over 2000 species and hybrid rhododendrons and azaleas , many bred at the park , as well as a fine collection of trees and shrubs. Some of the best New Zealand raised rhododendron hybrids have been planted and the collection is one of the most comprehensive in the country .Heritage Park also holds a key collection of the Rothchild (Exbury) rhododendron , the peak flowering season is from late September through to mid December
