Definition of Factorial


A factorial is a product of a list of consecutive natural numbers that start at a given number, and decrease down to \(1\).

We use the symbol ! for a factorial.

For example \(5! = 5 \times 4 \times 3 \times 2 \times 1 = 120\).

Some other examples are

\( \begin{align*} 3! &= 3 \times 2 \times 1 = 6\\ 6! &= 6\times 5 \times 4 \times 3 \times 2 \times 1 = 720\ \end{align*} \)

Description


The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
