Math Definitions - Letter O

Open Sentence

Definition of Open Sentence

An open sentence is a mathematical statement which may be either true or false, depending on the values of its variables.

For example, if we say that \(x - 2 not less than \(7\), and the statement is false. If \(x = 8\), then \(x - 2 = 8 - 2 = 6\), which is less than \(7\), and the statement is true.
