Definition of Annual Percentage Yield
Definition of Annual Percentage Yield

The annual percentage yield (APY) is the actual percentage rate that your investment returns each year.
For example, if you invested \(\$2,000\) at an interest rate of \(6%\) per year, compounded annually, you would earn \(\$120\) in one year, which corresponds to an APY of \(6\%\).
However, if you invested \(\$2,000\) at an interest rate of \(3\%\) per six months, you would earn \(\$121.80\) interest in one year, which corresponds to an APY of \(6.09\%\)
