Definition of Decimal Fraction
A decimal fraction is a fraction in which the denominator is a power of \(10\).
It is easy to write decimal fractions as decimal numbers, with a decimal point and no denominator. This makes it easier to do calculations with them.
For example,
- \(\dfrac{3}{10}\) is a decimal fraction, with decimal representation \(0.3\).
- \(\dfrac{53}{100}\) is a decimal fraction. It can be written as \(0.53\).
- \(\dfrac{79}{1000}\) is a decimal fraction. It can be written in decimal form as \(0.079\).
