Definition of Decimal Number System


The decimal number system is the base-10 number system that we use every day. It is based on the \(10\) digits \(\{0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9\}\).

The position of each digit determines the value it represents. The right-most position represents units, the second position from the right represents tens, the third position from the right represents hundreds, the fourth position from the right represents thousands, and so on.

\(0\) is used as a place holder to indicate that a particular power of ten does not contribute to the value of the number.

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a studen
