Decimal Point
Definition of Decimal Point
A decimal point is a full-stop that is used to separate the whole part of a decimal number from its fractional part.
Decimal points are written as commas in some countries.
For example, the decimal point in the number \(237.69\) lies between the digits \(7\) and \(6\). It separates the whole number \(237\) from the fractional part, which is \(0.69\). This fractional part represents the decimal fraction \(\dfrac{69}{100}\). So, \(237.69\) is \(237\) and \(69\) hundredths.
