Ellipse
Definition of Ellipse
An ellipse is a conic section that looks like a squashed circle.
Formally, an ellipse is the locus of a point which moves so that the sum of its distances from two fixed points called the foci is equal to a constant.
You can draw an ellipse by tying the ends of a piece of string to two drawing pins and sticking them in a piece of paper. Put the point of a pencil firmly against the string and pull it tight. Keeping the string tight, move the pencil in an arc. The pencil will draw an ellipse.
