Math Definitions - Letter E
Chapters
Expand
Definition of Expand
To expand an expression means to multiply it out and get rid of the brackets. You need to make sure that you complete the operations in the right order.
For example, to expand \(7(x + 5)\), we multiply \(x\) by \(7\) and \(5\) by \(7\), and then add the results to obtain \(7x + 35\).
Expansion is the opposite of factorisation.
