Definition of Error
The error in a measurement is the difference between the measured value and the actual value of the measurement.
We can never really determine the precise value of the error, but we can work out its maximum size.
The error in a measurement depends on the scale of the instrument used for measuring. For example, if the instrument's scale is labelled in 10s like the one in the picture, then any value between 55 and 65 is measured as 60, so the error is plus or minus 5.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
