Definition of Tally Mark
Tally marks are marks made to keep count of how many times a particular data item appears.
Tally marks are placed in groups of \(5\) for ease of counting: the first four marks are made vertically, and the fifth mark is drawn diagonally across them.
For example, the table on the left shows that \(11\) students play Skylanders.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
