Triangular Number

Definition of Triangular Number

Triangular Number

Start with a number \(n\) and pick up \(n\) blocks or \(n\) stickers. If you can form those blocks or stickers into a triangular pattern like the ones shown in the picture, \(n\) is a triangular number.

Some examples of triangular numbers are \(1,3,6,10,15, \text{ and} 21\). You form the \(7\text{th}\) triangular number by adding \(7\) to the sixth triangular number, and the eighth triangular number by adding \(8\) to the seventh triangular number, and so on.
