Remainder
Definition of Remainder
A remainder is the amount of a number left over (remaining) after division.
For example,
- You can't divide \(7\) evenly into \(23\). The closest you can get is \(7 \times 3 = 21\), so there are \(2\) left over after division, and \(23 \div 7 = 3 \text{ r } 2\).
- You can divide \(5\) evenly into \(25\): \(25 \div 5 = 5\) exactly. So, the remainder is zero.
