Math Definitions - Letter S
Chapters
Speed
Definition of Speed
The speed of an object tells us how quickly it is moving.
We calculate speed by dividing the distance travelled by the time it takes to travel that distance, so speed is measured as the distance travelled in each unit of time.
For example, the car in the picture can travel at speeds of up to \(200 \text{ km/h}\). So the unit of time is \(1 \text{ hour}\), and the distance travelled in that unit of time is \(200 \text{ km}\).
