Definition of Square Kilometre
A square kilometre is a metric unit used to measure area.
It is equal to the area of a square with a side length of \(1 \text{ km}\).
We use square metres to measure large areas such as the areas of farms or towns.
We use the symbol, \(\text{km}^2\) for square kilometres.
For example, the area of a town might be \(601 \text{ km}^2\).
