Definition of Standard Form
A standard form of a mathematical object is a commonly accepted way of writing that object.
For example,
- For numbers, standard form means writing them in scientific notation
- The standard form for the equation of a straight line is \(ax + by + c = 0\)
- The standard form for a quadratic equation is \(ax^2 + bx + c\)
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
