Definition of Symmetry
An image has symmetry if you can produce the same image by turning, flipping or sliding the original image.
"Reflection" symmetry is the symmetry shown by the butterfly in the picture. The butterfly will look the same if you draw one half of it, and place a mirror along the dotted line to produce the other half as the reflection of the first half.
Some other types of symmetry are point symmetry and rotational symmetry.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
