Definition of Congruent

Two geometric figures are congruent if they have exactly the same shape and size.

You can fit one congruent figure onto another using turns, flips, and translations.

The shapes in the example are congruent. One is formed from the other by rotating it through \(180^\circ\).

American books say that angles are congruent when they have the same size and sides are congruent when they have the same length. We tend to say that these things are "equal".
