Correlation
Definition of Correlation
The correlation tells you how strongly two sets of data are related to each other.
You can determine the correlation visually by looking at a scatter plot of the two sets of data.
For example, if the two sets of data are scattered across the plane, we say that there is no correlation between them.
If they appear to congregate around a straight line, then we say that they are highly correlated.
If two sets of data are highly correlated, we may be able to say that increases in the variable corresponding to one set cause the other variable to increase or decrease, but this is not necessarily the case. There may be other reasons why there is a strong correlation between the two data sets.
